If you’re struggling to connect with your authentic brand presence, you’re not alone! In fact, most people struggle to feel authentic within their brand. It’s usually because finding and cultivating a personal presence that’s both a true extension of your personality and a client-attracting kind of persona is more complex than it looks.
Luckily, around here we specialize in making building a personal presence and a brand so you don’t have to struggle anymore. Down below I’m sharing five journaling prompts to help you get in touch with your personal presence in a more authentic way.
If you’re feeling somewhat lost on what to make your brand and business center around, it can be helpful to take a journey back to childhood. What were you attracted to when you were younger? What passions did you have before you were an adult worrying about having a career? Did you have hobbies that you did when you were younger that you were naturally good at?
If this avenue doesn’t feel like it’s yielding much, you can also look to the last few years. What do you do in your free time? Is there anything about your current work that you do enjoy that you’d like to do more of?
“What are you proud of? What makes you happy when you look within yourself? You should use these things in the brand building process!”

Although this question is largely geared at someone who’s changing careers, it can still be helpful for someone who’s starting a new business or taking a new direction in their brand. I like to ask this one because people can sometimes lose their way and forget that their skills have value no matter what career transition they make. If you think long enough, chances are good you’ll have a long list of skills that are applicable wherever you want your career journey to go next!
When you reflect on your life and career, what would you consider successful? Some people place monetary values on success, but this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. If you can create impact in even a few people’s lives, that can be a profound success too! You may also think of things like time off with family, freedom to pursue passions, and the ability to work less (hello four day workweek!) as marks of success.
Haha, I know this one can be really difficult. We all have things that we’re insecure about, but I love to ask this question to get you thinking about what you LOVE about who you are. What are you proud of? What makes you happy when you look within yourself? You may feel like you struggle initially, but the more you look in the mirror and tell yourself the positive things, the more confidence you can begin to cultivate. We can use these things in the brand building process!
Notice that I phrased this question differently than simply ‘what am I good at?’ because I want you to think about what YOU feel inspired by within yourself. What skills are you proud to be good at. In your estimation, what are your gifts? Then, look out to the wider world. Is there something that people have said repeatedly that you’re good at? Notice the compliments you’ve received in the past. They’ll give you clarity!
