As busy female professionals, career-driven women, mompreneurs… It can be so easy to fall down the rabbit hole of feeling completely overwhelmed by the demands life serves us (on a silver platter) every single day.

That moment when we begin to feel stressed and think negatively about ourselves, please take the next moment for yourself. Even if it’s just for a couple of minutes – to take some deep breaths, focus on the present moment and allow yourself to clear your mind. This can help you restore balance and energy, and provide some much-needed perspective.

Something else that I find incredibly helpful for myself is positive affirmations.

As a busy female entrepreneur myself, affirmations tailored to a busy woman’s life and business makes a huge difference.

Positive affirmations are a powerful tool that can help reprogram our minds and change negative self-talk into positive self-talk.

Why Positive Affirmations Work

The science behind positive affirmations is rooted in the principles of neuroplasticity. Which is the brain’s ability to change and rewire itself based on experiences and behavior.

When we repeat positive affirmations, we create new neural pathways in our brain. Which can replace negative self-talk and limiting beliefs with more positive and empowering ones. This process can also increase the production of neurotransmitters such as dopamine. Which is associated with feelings of pleasure and motivation.

It’s important to note that positive affirmations alone are not a magic cure for all our problems. But they can be a helpful tool for women (and men too!) when combined with other positive habits, such as exercise, meditation, and healthy social connections.

Save my 5 favorite affirmations for career-drive women

1) I am worthy of an exceptional business and life

2) I am ready to step out of my comfort zone and into my greatness

3) Money flows to me easily and effortlessly

4) I receive messages daily from other people wanting to work with me

5) I take care of myself every day so I have the strength to help others

But here’s the secret…

These affirmations work best when they are repeated regularly and with intention. Try incorporating them into your daily routine. For example, say them aloud in the morning while brewing your coffee or as you drive to the office. The more you practice, the more they will become ingrained in your mind and help you overcome negative self-talk.

I’ve made this part of my daily routine, and have seen a difference in my business and life.

Have you saved these affirmations to add to your daily routine yet?!

Additional information: The Science Behind

Here are a few scientific studies that have explored the effectiveness of positive affirmations:

  • Wood, J. V., Elaine Perunovic, W. Q., & Lee, J. W. (2009). Positive Self-Statements: Power for Some, Peril for Others. Psychological Science, 20(7), 860–866. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1467-9280.2009.02370.x This study found that positive self-statements can be effective for individuals with high self-esteem. But may be detrimental for those with low self-esteem. The authors suggest that individuals with low self-esteem may need to start with more neutral affirmations before moving to more positive ones.
  • Schou, I., Ekeberg, Ø., & Ruland, C. M. (2005). The power of being positive: The relationship between positive self-talk, perceived control and recovery from surgery. Patient Education and Counseling, 60(2), 237–242. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pec.2004.06.010  This study found that patients who engaged in positive self-talk before and after surgery had lower levels of anxiety and faster physical recovery compared to those who did not engage in positive self-talk.
  • Kilpatrick, L. A., Suyenobu, B. Y., Smith, S. R., Bueller, J. A., Goodman, T., Creswell, J. D., Tillisch, K., & Mayer, E. A. (2011). Impact of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Training on Intrinsic Brain Connectivity. NeuroImage, 56(1), 290–298. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.neuroimage.2011.02.045 This study found that participants underwent mindfulness-based stress reduction training. Which includes positive affirmations, had changes in brain connectivity patterns associated with attention and emotional regulation.
