Best Branding Books for New Entrepreneurs

I often get asked about great books for creative entrepreneurs. There are so many options out there– which are the best titles to start with? I’ve created my own list to streamline things next time you’re at the bookstore or adding something new to your cart online.

Check out my favorite books for creative entrepreneurs! I can’t wait to see what you think of these reads.

Start With Why by Simon Sinek

I love this book because it gets down to an essential question we ask in branding: why? It truly is where everything starts. Sinek is the one who showed us that while many brands know what they do and even how they do it, they don’t always know why. This answer can get us closer to building a truly awesome, standout brand.

You’ll like this one for Sinek’s wise but accessible ideas about branding.

Building a Storybrand by Donald Miller

This book is a well-known and much loved companion for many of the creative entrepreneurs I know. It’s an EXCELLENT foundation for beginning the process of finding your brand message and getting clear on how you can get clients’ attention through the right words.

“All brands ultimately embody one, if not multiple, personas.”

-MILA

@PRESENCEOLOGY

Through Miller’s signature framework (A character has a problem and meets a guide who gives them a plan and calls them to action that ends in success that helps them avoid failure), you will discover exactly who your ideal client, or character is, and how you can be the guide that solves their problem.

I promise, this one’s straightforward and something you can begin implementing right away!

The Hero and the Outlaw by Margaret Mark and Carol Pearson

If you know me, you know I am obsessed with brand archetypes! If you’re not familiar, they are basically a set of personas that all brands ultimately take on as a point of view. From the transformational Magician to the passionate Lover, innovative Creator, and beyond, your brand will ultimately embody one, if not multiple, personas.

I love this book so much because it brings brand archetypes from the world of psychology where they were first created to an applicable guide that shows you how to find patterns that will help you not only discover your own archetype but embody it with ease in all you do.

Brand Brilliance by Fiona Humberstone

Not only is this book wildly beautiful, but it’s also an amazing strategic guide for elevating your brand. You’ll love her tips for refining your communications, converting prospects, creating a media kit, and building up your marketing muscles so you can sell with ease.

I like this one particularly because it’s equal parts actionable book meets fun, skimmable coffee table guide.

Platform: The Art and Science of Personal Branding by Cynthia Johnson

We see the word ‘platform’ thrown around a lot online, whether referring to social media or our own brand platforms, so to speak.

Johnson’s book is a unique exploration of influence, presence, and brand development. In this book, you’ll learn both how the author herself achieved greater status in her business through social proof and recognition, while also discovering applicable tips to do so yourself!

It’s equal parts tactical, technical, and creative, so you’ll have fun implementing as you go.
